  1. This is the best summary of the new Kindle's I've seen, Gadget. Thanks.

  2. Was so excited to get your email about the new fire tablet. The camera was great, but the stronger wifi and hdmi was even better. I was all set to click on the buy button, had researched a trade in and then read the fine print. It comes with "Special Offers" with no apparent way to opt out, like with the kindle ereaders. My enthusiasm has now dimmed considerable, and think I will stay with my current fire without ads.

    1. It's entirely your call, but really the only times you see the ads are when the screensaver come up, which can be pretty much never on your Fire when you put it to sleep. On the e-readers with special offers, some people actually find them more interesting then the same old images all the time. I bet people will hardly know they're on there.

  3. I have been wanting a Fire for months now, and put off ordering once I heard that a newer model was in the works, and besides, I do have my trusty K3 3G!

I ordered my new Fire within hours of the announcement, and after going back and forth on the merits of the various Fire models, decided on the 16G 7" HD (I must say here that the fellow at Amazon was a great help in guiding me through the decision process). The bit about the 'Special Offers' was a bit disconcerting initially, but I agree that they will probably not be a big deal.

I do know that I've got quite a wish list accumulating of various apps and such that I want to order as soon as my new toy arrives! LOL!!

    2. I just read on Today PC World, that Amazon will allow an opt-out for the ads for a $15 upcharge. However, I don't know whether or not this will apply to devices already purchased.

Regardless, I may decide to keep the $15 in my wallet to apply toward goodies for my Fire.

    3. Yeah, I've been reading that too, though I think I read it was $20. You may be right about the price. I'm sure you can opt out any time if you want.
